Silver Dollars are beautiful fish with unique silver bodies that make any aquarium stand out. Because they are such special fish, make sure you only select them from licensed pet shops to ensure you’re getting high-quality breeds. Here are some tips on how to best care for your Silver Dollar fish.
1. Since Silver Dollars can grow up to roughly 8 inches in diameter, it is important to make sure that your aquarium is sufficiently large to support their growth. At least a 300-gallon tank is required to support four to six Silver Dollars.
2. Silver Dollars are shy of too much light, so make sure that you have set up very delicate lighting for the aquarium.
3. The best water environment consists of temperatures ranging from 75 to 80 degrees F, with a pH balance between 6 and 7.5.
4. Silver Dollars are somewhat zealous eaters, so it is a good idea to supply your tank with a lot of plants for them to graze on. Too few plants will result in too many plants being devoured too quickly, which won't give them a chance to grow back. To help with this, you can also feed the fish romaine lettuce by hanging the leaves from the side of the tank. Silver Dollars should also be fed live foods from time to time, such as bloodworms and brine shrimp.
